A record number of competitors resulted in a new record number of entries (over 650) and according to the judges a very high quality standard. The new classes were well supported. The number of Trainees entering was again disappointing, one wonders just where the craftsmen of the future are!! This Year entrants came from as far as Worcester and winning the Open Bread Championship made The Hot Bread Shop's journey from Alderney worthwhile. BAKO Western have kindly refurbished one of the Western Region's cups which will be known as “The BAKO Managers Trophy” this year it was presented to the Best Exhibit in Show in the new Innovative Section.Judges Comments Download Full Results
Record prize money again this year over £5000 in prizes. New Inovative products section, to reflect the ever changing trading environment, this year we have introduced an entirely new Innovation section with one Bread line, one Confectionery line and one Takeaway line. We have deliberately kept the description of each class vague to encourage competitors to be as innovative as possible.
Artisan Luxury Loaf (61) The judges will be looking for that special loaf which appeals to the eye and palate - The loaf can contain other ingredients such as nuts and fruit to enhance flavour. The only real stipulation is the product must be yeast raised.
Assorted Whoopie Cakes (62) A new public craze also known as Whoopie Pies - Here the judges will be looking for something different not just sponge drops sandwiched with butter cream.
An Innovative Takeaway Product (63) Can be savoury or sweet and again something new in either shape, flavour or eye appeal.

This year the Championships attracted a record number of competitors from the Channel Islands, north to Worcestershire, with an increase of entries in the bread classes. Confectionery classes however were down on last year. Most of the Trainee classes were better subscribed although here again the confectionery was not as well supported as the bread classes. Overall the Championships were a great sucess thanks to our Allied Traders for their sponsorship and of couse to Bako Western for hosting the event, this year in their new warehouse extension.

The overall standard of entries was excellent, this gave the judges quite a task when some classes included more than one entry of outstanding quality.
Excellent prize money again this year, thanks to our Allied Traders, NA Education Fund again sponsored the Trainee classes with £100 in prizes for each class.
